The enclosed survey from Marsh and Microsoft focuses on some important topics, governance, ownership, supply chain and the role of governments both in setting regulation and the need to address nation state threats. Key messages include

1. 79% of respondents placed cyber risk as a top 5 risk above economic factors, liquidity or fraud.
2. Around 60% of companies have little confidence of their ability to respond or recover from a cyber incident.
3. Only 17% of boards and leadership teams spend more than a few days a year cyber risk management.
4. Business leaders remain uncertain over the degree of the risk which new technologies bring to their organisations.
5. Organisation feel that their suppliers pose a bigger risk to cyber security than themselves.
6. Only 28% or respondents felt that government regulation was effective at managing cyber risks and 55% felt that governments should manage nation state related attacks.

The report is a broad assessment of opinions around cyber risk management. In many cases the trends are moving in a positive direction with improvements in general corporate awareness. But there is a way to go to get cyber risk onto the board table.
