The impact of Cyber Supply Chain Risk Management (C-SCRM) are being felt up and down the supply chains. Cyber-attacks have affected horizontal and vertical customer-supplier relationships. Therefore having a clear understanding of the relationships between your customer and suppliers and the part that they play in your product development is important in understanding the impact on your product development life cycle.

The affect of Cyber attacks on customer supplier relationships are well documented. They range from software supply chain hacks that have deployed ransomware across government agencies (SolarWinds). To direct ransomware attacks that have affected the delivery of parts and services up supply chains affecting production, such as the attacks on the Toyota supply chain that affected Japanese domestic production in 2022.

Supply chain mapping and resilience planning is a regulatory focus. Especially the software supply chain, where one sees increased regulation focused on the documentation, publication and remediation planning of product software.
