The management of defense IP is critical to the national security of any nation. Especially when you spend over $700 billion on defense, some of which goes on the development of the next generation of weapon systems.

With cyber a critical security domain, it is important that defense IP is protected, and the DoD has worked from 2017 through its DFARS contractual program to embed cybersecurity into defence contracts from Primes down through the defense supply chain to secure Controlled Unclassified Information.

With the DoD moving forward with its DFARs program in 2023 with CMMC 2.0, with implementation planned starting in 2025. One wonders if the clock is ticking far to slowly, at risk to national security, as recent reports indicate recent data breaches may identify F35 and F15 information.

‘The Senate Armed Services Committee outlined its concerns over the implementation of the Pentagon’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification program and the upcoming launch of version 2.0 in the report accompanying its version of the fiscal year 2025 defense authorization bill.’
