The recent UK Defence Committee’s meetings Strategic Defence Review (SDR) highlights the skills crisis across UK cyber, AI and defence. The session also highlighted concerns about skills shortages, particularly in critical areas like cyber operations and artificial intelligence. General Barrons described this as a “skills crisis,” noting, “The one that is most prominent for defence is accessing the skills in the digital space.”It is a challenge that is difficult to address, as along side other nation states, the UK faces a cyber and AI skills crisis. A skills gap that is very difficult to close for many reasons. The UK does not just require people that have gone through cyber education, we require the ability to align knowledge skills and experience with competencies. It is a reason why you have written many times about the adoption by the U.S government of the NICE framework for the alignment of cybersecurity skills against job roles and required competencies.https://lnkd.in/dPztSpuVIn short, you have to have demonstratable qualifications to undertake cybersecuirty roles within Federal Government. Under the NICE competency framework. If the UK want to drive cyber enabled workforce then the approach adopted by the U.S is the way forward. Brian D.
