The sheer pace of AI adoption is broader, deeper, and faster than any other technological transformation we have witnessed, cutting across every sector and fundamentally altering how organisations operate, compete, and create value.

It’s fair to say that Anthropic’s recent release of Mythos has caught everyone off guard, least of all the Financial Services Industry. This is just the start, as we’re only a couple of years into the next industrial revolution, which looks to be AI-driven.

AI rapidly exposes society’s dependency on digital and organisations’ defensive cybersecurity. It has been highlighted that AI products such as Mythos can identify software vulnerabilities. More concerning is that AI is increasingly automating the cyber kill chain. When taking into account the low levels of cyber maturity, poor resourcing, and underinvestment in cybersecurity, one should be very concerned about the adoption of AI without governance, oversight, and assurance of cyber and AI risk. AI exposes the weaknesses in corporate cybersecurity at a speed, depth, and breadth we have never experienced.

Cybersecurity Risk Management is not just a role for the CISO; it’s an enterprise-wide role driven by the board down to the shop floor.
