The U.S arm of Australian based ship builder, defense contractor and public corporation Austal, has reported a cyber incident. One of several that have affected the company over the past 5 years. It’s not the first defense ship builder affected by a cyber attack this year, Fincantieri Marinette Marine suffered an attack in April.
As a Prime defense contractor it is covered under DFARS 242.204-7012, 7019 and 7020, and likely 7021 (CMMC) if the FAR changes are announced by the OMB and DoD. Can the company demonstrate at a minimum it has implemented NIST SP 800-171 and what were the firms SPRS scores?
The DoJ announced in 2021 that it will focus efforts Civil Cyber Fraud Initiative, focusing on firms that fail to meet their contractual obligations under the FCA – https://lnkd.in/gwP8qugm with the potential for both civil and criminal sanctions.
