The U.S. DoD CMMC program continues on its course for implementation, expected to be formalized into DoD contracts by the middle of 2023. The organisation charged with developing the assessment program for the DoD, the Cyber (formally CMMC) Accreditation Body has launched a voluntary program to assess CMMC compliance of defence contractors.
The elephant in the room that is not being publicly discussed is how will the DoD provide oversight and assurance of its foreign defence contractors and subcontractors? At present assessors are U.S. based, cybersecurity standards differ across the international DIB and cyber security compliance remains a challenge for companies. Least of all the small businesses that defence primes rely for products and services.
