The U.S takes its whistleblowing obligations seriously. The SEC charged 7 companies with violations of whistleblower protection rules, with fines ranging from $19,000 up to $1.3 million. The firms were each charged with violating whistleblower protection Rule 21F-17(a), which prohibits any action to impede an individual from communicating directly with the SEC staff about a possible securities law violation.

Whistleblower regulation is used to great affect by Federal Agencies. In FY 2023 the Securities and Exchange Commission awarded nearly $600 million to 68 individual whistleblowers, from more than 18,000 whistleblower tips.
