The UK doesn’t even have to be bold…….it just needs to do what partner nations are doing. One only has to read cyber regulations across the globe to realise the risk they are attempting to manage and why, and the convergence of national, economic, and corporate security.

There are no levers left for governments to pull to manage cyber risk, and the consequential risks to national, economic, or organisational security, other than regulation. Enforcing cybersecurity compliance and adopting a whole-of-society approach to cyber risk management.

The irony is that the UK is affected by international cyber regulation. The UK defence industry has had 10 years to comply with US DoD cyber regulations; today, at best, defense contractors won’t get DoW contracts if they don’t comply. At worst, they face legal action for historic non-compliance. The EU is rolling out cyber regulations, including the NIS2, DORA, and CRA, that affect companies trading in and with the EU. Banks have been regulated to manage cyber for years. The international message is clear: regulation.

This week’s issues with ClawdBot…..now OpenClaw Agentic AI has opened a whole can of AI and security issues industry is not prepared for.
