The UK Governments National Cyber Security Center has a new head in the form of Richard Horne. The first time the NCSC has put a person with cybersecurity experience and academics at the helm of the department responsible for the oversight of UK cybersecurity and the protection of national infrastructure.
The treat cyber poses to national, economic and societal security is well documented. Geopolitical threats are rapidly developing across the world and cyber is one domain of operation that is growing in prominence, least of all under the use of ransomware attacks. One must remember, if you can orchestrate a successful ransomware attack you can orchestrate data destruction, data manipulation, data theft, and as we see increasingly threat actors maintaining persistence inside their targets.
With global cyber regulation moving at pace, with the UK lacking in direction for cybersecurity policy, strategy and implementation we face not only a threat from nationally significant threats. But also lack the tools to defend ‘Corporate UK’ from our shores to our villages, towns and cities.
