The UK Pensions regulator published guidance to trustees and managers of pensions for the oversight and assurance of cybersecurity late in 2023.(https://lnkd.in/eH5a4pjg). That came at a time when the UK National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) changed its cyber threat reporting framework. Affecting cyber threat reporting and pushing back the responsibility of threat assessment onto pensions funds and their trustees.

Alongside vulnerabilities, a comprehensive understanding of cyber threats is critical. It forms the basis of cyber risk identification and risk mitigation. The threat of cyber evolves daily. Cyber attacks are a threat to national, economic and societal security.

Pension funds are targets for cyber attack. They manage significant investments across financial markets, they rely on third party vendors and on the cybersecurity of third parties. They are also affected by the volatility of cyber attacks on investment on financial markets be that securities, fixed income or equities.

With the increases in cyber attack frequency, complexity and severity of impact, access to quality, up to date threat data is important.
