The UKs quiet diplomacy occasionally makes the headlines. In this case the National Grid has bought to an end contracts with the manufacturers of components used to control electricity transmission. Is the UK government quietly working to sort out its digital security issues with suppliers of Critical National Infrastructure technology that have strong links to nation state governments? Last weeks release of a UK Parliamentary report on the preparedness of the UK for ransomware attacks and the UKs ability to mitigate the attacks and their fall out (https://lnkd.in/eZZKUNMu).
The UK is not alone in facing these challenge, some European countries have been considering banning 5G mobile technology and the UK and Australia banned the use of Chinese made security cameras across government buildings.. The UK bought out Chinas state owned China General Nuclear from the planned Sizewell C nuclear power plant for £100Mn. While there appears to be no clear public comment as to why China General Nuclear was bought out, maybe national security was a consideration?
