The United States Department of War is overhauling its acquisition process to promote competition, reduce bureaucracy, and speed up delivery of capabilities to warfighters.

The overhaul will replace the current program executive office structure with a new portfolio acquisition executive, pushing commercial first contracting. (https://lnkd.in/eKB2ye7V).

With the CMMC final rule effective Monday, 10th November. One begs the question of the role that cybersecurity plays within the new procurement process. As the draft proposes.

‘Aligns contracting officer accountability directly in the portfolio chain of command, ensuring they are embedded with program teams and accountable for mission outcomes rather than compliance metrics.’

Sounds like the Global DIB may have DoW procurement teams working closer to their delivery processes. With a close eye on mission, security, and cybersecurity. At a time when the DoW is driving compliance with DFARS 7012, 7019, 7020, and 7021 regulations, with the aim of protecting national security and delivering mission-critical systems. That aligns with the needs of delivering a more efficient and effective procurement process.
