The World Economic Forum (WEF) published its global risk report on the 15.01.25. Cyber remains up there in the top 5 behind misinformation, extreme weather, state armed conflict and social polarisation. Although one argues that cyber plays a part in at least 4 of these, to a greater or lesser degree and one questions whether it is 9th in the top 10, of long term risks given the incidents that have occurred over the past 12 months and general failure of most nation states and organisation to manage cyber risks.Figure 1. (Current Global Risks by Age Group) provides interesting observations of how different generations view cyber risk. Under 40s do not rank it in the top 12, maybe indicative of the lack of awareness Brian D. McCarthy and over 40’s (generally the age group of board members) do not rate it highly. All age groups rate State Based armed conflict as a top risk, yet cyber is predominant domain of operation for states forming, part of the tool kit of war (Figure 1.10).The 2025 is an great read, it evolves previous reports by examining risk through different lenses such as how cyber is weaved into risk assessments of global conflict, geopolitical recession and geopolitical confrontation. Bringing a light to the effects cyber can have on geopolitics.@Thaddeus Dziekanowski Brian D. McCarthy Faisal KhanVeritas GRC World Economic Forum#cybersecurity #cyberriskmanagement #cyberregulation
