This article from legal counsel is well worth a read on cloud security, security regulatory frameworks and data security that I know my colleague Ted Dziekanowski will comment on. It summarises the ‘shared responsibility model’ that cyber professionals and legal councel will be very familiar for cloud security.
This article discusses the complexity of cloud infrastructure, hosting and the legal responsibilities for data protection between cloud providers and data owners, and the legal and practical considerations to manage cybersecurity risks in the cloud.
With many organisations moving their data to the cloud for good reason. The legal obligations for managing data security and the shared responsibility model for controls inheritance is a consideration that needs to be understood and managed. With the SECs cybersecurity risk management proposals in the wings, the DoJ civil cyber fraud initiative, GDPR, the move to standardise global cybersecurity standards and numerous other international cyber legislation.
The recent leak from Facebook relating to the tracking of personal data, if proven true, demonstrates that big tech maybe finding this difficult.
