Threat actors using AI to operationalise cyber threats, no. What is used for good is operationalised for bad to industrialise cyber attacks. Automating workflows, increasing speed, scale, and resilience. Where once a script kiddie could launch a cyber attack for a few $100’s. Threat actors use it to draft phishing lures, translate content, summarize stolen data, generate or debug malware, and scaffold scripts at speed and scale, while ‘jailbreaking’ security controls.
The barriers to cyber were already low, but AI has enabled threat actors to automate their tradecraft further. Reducing friction across the Cyber Kill Chain, as demonstrated by the enclosed Microsoft article.
Furthermore, the insurance industry, which already had issues with underwriting Cyber. Now faces the growing issue of how to underwrite AI, or, as several articles have recently pointed out, excluding AI coverage.
