Call us now:
UK Parliament, the science, innovation and technology committee has made a call for evidence to evaluate the UKs Critical National Infrastructures resilience to cybersecurity. The call states that the UK is the third most targeted country in the world for cyber-attacks, after the US and Ukraine. Which is interesting, as we never hear about the cyber attacks launched on the UK public and private sector with the same frequency as say Germany or the U.S (Olaf Classen).
This begs a few questions. Is the UK more cybersecure and resilient than other nations? Do we already have cyber standards necessary to protect the UK public and private sector? Cyber threats evolve continually targeting UK industry how is the UK keeping on top of this evolution, when other nations seem to be struggling enough and regulating cybersecurity? Could the U.S and EU learn from the UK? Or does the UK not track or report cyber attacks as much as other nations, and is the UK is an equally as bad situation as its partners.
One only has to look at the approaches being adopted by UK allies to manage cyber to know that our cyber standards have fallen behind our allies. As with all nations we do not have the necessary cyber skills to implement cyber policy across the public and private sector. The UK does not have the legislation to manage cyber risk.
While there is a due process to be followed and a call for evidence is important. One can look at its allies and their actions to manage public and private sector cyber to understand what needs to be done. We will be required to harmonise with their frameworks, standards.
