Where does the United States Department of Wars CMMC program sit within the international trade conversation? It’s widely reported that there aren’t enough qualified CMMC assessors to evaluate and issue a Level 2 compliance certificate. That the DoW will start to formally add to defence contracts from November 2026.

CMMC if adhered to by the DoW will affect defense trade, commercial trade, and, as CUI can be included in ITAR, export controls. Is there a slow train wreck call CMMC that could derail defence trade, will the DoW just accept the cyber risk, or will the DoW and Department of Justice start to look at enforcement action against DFARS non-compliance using, for example, the False Claims Act?
