The legal profession has always been a target for hackers. Many reports highlight the challenges the legal profession faces with cybersecurity and the need to protect the most sensitive private client data. The challenge however is that when one looks at the cyber supply chain that includes MSPs, there are no regulations in the UK that set standards of cyber compliance for private sector firms.

This needs to be addressed so that organizations can understand the ‘bar’ that they are expected to achieve, and set a reasonable and adequate level of cybersecurity. Earlier this year Rachel V. Rose, JD, MBA, Ted Dziekanowski and I ran a cyber program for U.S Attorneys on cybersecurity, regulation, ethical and fiduciary responsibilities, oversight, assurance. To educate attorneys on the challenges ahead for cybersecurity, cyber regulations and standards and the protection of client information.

Cybersecurity regulation is being applied to MSPs in the EU, the same needs to apply in the UK.
