A brilliant paper and a very interesting question, ‘Is cyber an unsolvable problem’ Ted Dziekanowski? Raising many philosophical questions about cybersecurity and whether it’s to complex a problem to address. Does the success of hacking, built on the same fundamental foundations of cybersecurity, make cybersecurity an impossible problem to fix?

Cybersecurity is not a primarily technological problem that requires a primarily engineering solution, Shapiro writes. It is a human problem that requires an understanding of human behavior. That’s his mantra throughout the book: Hacking is about humans. And it portends, for Shapiro, the death of ‘solutionism. (Not every problem has a technological solution)

Without doubt, on so many levels cyber is a difficult problem to solve, by the virtue of it being an international, national, cultural, organizational, economic and societal problem. There is no one size fits all solution that can be applied to address cybersecuirty as a national Security issue, corporate cyber problem or a solution that addresses societal cybersecurity. But it is clear that we have to try and find a solution, our dependance on digital for almost all aspects of our lives makes cyber a problem that requires a solution.

Demonstrating that Technology alone won’t fix it.
