A document by Harvard Law School that I would recommend board members of public firms on US markets read. It sets the direction for the SEC on its path to oversight and assure cybersecurity of public traded firms. It discusses the foundations and precedence the SEC has been laying to provide oversight of public firms and their management and reporting of material cyber risk.

¢â‚¬Å“The Vulcan mind meld, also known as the mind link, mind probe, mind fusion, mind touch, or simply meld, was a telepathic link between two individuals. It allowed for an intimate exchange of thoughts, thus in essence enabling the participants to become one mind, sharing consciousness in a kind of gestalt.¢â‚¬Â

In this case the ‘meld’ of oversight and enforcement by the SEC with the corporate obligations of public firms to weigh the potential materiality of identified risks (cyber), the impact on corporate operations, data loss and shareholder value. The outcome for both the SEC and public firms is becoming clearer.

The SEC 2021 regulatory calendar includes cyber risk governance.
