A perspective on CMMC compliance that highlights why CMMC and cybersecurity compliance require organisational discipline, it requires leadership, and it requires governance.

As with all compliance programs, CMMC compliance is not a point-in-time. In fact, for many covered companies, compliance started as far back as 2016 with DFARS 252.204-7012 and has carried forward. However, as of November 2025, compliance with CMMC requirements got real, and now Primes are setting out their expectation to do business with them. As they won’t solely be carrying the compliance risk.

CMMC requires clear and demonstrable continuous evidence-based compliance. Compliance that should demonstrate board oversight and assurance.

The first 100 days of CMMC were never meant to be dramatic. The signal lies not in what happened immediately, but what is now unavoidable.

One wonders the effect of CMMC on the international DIB, which is often overlooked.
