A very interesting read, as the Impact of cyber attacks on global healthcare infrastructure was discussed at the UN last week. The head of the UN World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Friday 8th November that cyber attacks against healthcare providers are putting the worlds healthcare infrastructure at critical risk. As the Security Council was convened to discuss how best to counter the growing threat.
“Ransomware and other cyberattacks on hospitals and other health facilities are not just issues of security and confidentiality, they can be issues of life and death,â€
“Just as viruses don’t respect borders, nor do cyberattacks. International cooperation is therefore essential,â€
However, while one believes that there needs to be international collaboration of cybersecurity. One has not seen any real world solutions put forward to enable global collaboration to manage cybersecurity risks. Sharing incidents and threats does not enable nations to better govern, oversight, assure and manage cybersecurity risks. There needs to be solutions put forward that enables those affected by cyber threats to better manage those threats.
