A whole new can of worms is being opened by the United States Department of War, as it launches audits into 30 Academic institutions that have institutional ties and collaborations with foreign entities identified under Section 1286 of the FY19 NDA. Audits that seek to assure tax-payer funded research investments.
One wonders if these audits will evaluate DFARS 7012 compliance, as NIST 171 security standard compliance is required at a minimum for the protection of CUI, securing IP, and ensuring that technology funded by taxpayers is protected.
