Alex Karp’s conversation on CNBC last week raises several challenges for AI adoption and usage.
AI is becoming a critical resource for companies that require an application layer to make it safe, useful, and precise. Palantir has its Ontology. Safe so that AI does not touch your unlearned data, safe because it prevents AI from caching your data and replicating your business, safe because it doesn’t transfer your IP.
1. The basic view is that industry is burning tokens and transferring its IP.
2. Frontier AI Labs must address ‘Trust’. The importance of ontologies.
3. Organisations should have control over their compute, their models, their data stack, and their Alpha.
4. AI needs to rebuild trust. Who owns the data, where is it cached, and are prompts secure?
AI is the model, plus the application layer, plus the compute. AI requires an application layer, called an ontology, where the company controls weights and owns compute and its data. Creating open-source models that are as good as frontier models. Organisations are paying for tokens that create no value, weights, and alpha is being taken by AI.
For organisations to adopt AI and protect their data, IP, and manage their compute, costs, and protect their value. They need to develop AI solutions that secure their data, allow them to control compute, and secure their IP behind their firewall to create value.
