All UK Critical National Infrastructure is at risk from cyber attacks. As demonstrated by the incident reported by The Telegraph newspaper, a UK power plant was shut down for 4 days following a cyberattack. A cyber attack reported to have originated from the Iranian nation state.
While little is known about the attack, it is a demonstration that cyber attacks are a threat to UK CNI, and it is not spreading FUD to say Cybersecurity is critical to UK national security.
The attack is not isolated to the UK. Cyber attacks against CNI operators are escalating, with the US FBI reporting multiple cyber attacks against water facilities across at least seven US states.
