Brian D. McCarthy a very interesting read from the U.S Government Accountability Office identifying the challenges faced by the Department of Health and Human Services in fulfilling it cybersecurity receptibilities.

A report that identifies short comings in the cybersecurity risk management oversight of HHS, highlighted in a report published bythe GAO in January 2024
‘Our January 2024 report also found that HHS had not evaluated the effectiveness of the support it provides to the sector’
and in part by the fall out from this years cyber attack on United Health. A report the President Elects proposed health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr and his team may pay attention to.
The United cyber incident costs are eye watering at $874 million. A figure that does not include the costs incurred by society during and following the attack and coming on top of an already significant roster of cyber attacks across the U.S healthcare.
The costs of the United attack weren’t material to United, however one could consider them material to the U.S society. One wonders how the new government is going to address cybersecurity risk management in healthcare. Healthcare alongside defense and law and order are critical to MAGA.
@Thaddeus Dziekanowski what levers could the new administration pull to hold executives accountable for managing cyber risk, especially when they impact wider society.
