Cybersecurity and resilience of capital markets and companies that trade on them is a concern for the SEC, that has long planned to regulate cybersecurity. The SEC Chair Gary Gensler has not been shy in stating his beliefs that cybersecurity is a material risk and started to take steps to formally propose cyber regulation with Investment advisers and funds (https://lnkd.in/dbayNuun). The SEC published ‘Cyber Risk Governance’ in its 2021 regulatory calendar, so one can expect further cyber regulation.

¢â‚¬Å“The Commission will consider whether to propose amendments regarding cybersecurity risk management, strategy, governance and incident disclosure,¢â‚¬Â‚ according to a notice set to publish‚ in the Federal Register.‚

Further cyber regulation should be of no surprise, the depth and breadth of cyber regulatory oversight and assurance is open for debate, pending the SEC meeting on the 9th of March. However developments in US cyber regulations including FISMA 2022, DOD DFARS/ CMMC program and the 2 Executive Orders in 2021 focusing on Supply Chain Risk Management and Cyber, there should be no surprises.
