Cybersecurity is a major concern of nation-states. The lack of cybersecurity risk management has spilled over in the UK this week, as the UK government sent out a Dear CEO letter to CEOs and Chairs of UK companies. Asking boards to take responsibility for the management of cybersecurity risk.

The risk of cybersecurity has been raised by the Swedish Government as a major risk and risk to national security. Geopolitics is creating hybrid risks that include cyber and kinetic warfare. Sweden’s economy relies on digital payments for 90% of transactions, and a failure of CNI and Financial services in the country has the potential to bring the economy to a halt. A failure in CNI and Financial systems creates fear and can create panic.
The banking system is a prioritized area for the Russians,†Marcus Murray said. They understand how much damage that does to society.â€Â
As an economy covered by EU NIS 2 and DORA, one suspects Sweden is moving quickly to implement cybersecurity risk management across CNI and FIs to protect national and economic security. Requiring a proactive approach to cybersecurity, with board governance, oversight, and assurance being a requirement, along with cybersecurity risk management and incident reporting.
Maybe adopting the UK government’s approach of paper and pen is a place to start?
