Cybersecurity is a risk to all nations. The governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr Zakari Mumuni has called for urgent reforms to protect the integrity of the continents digital financial ecosystem at a recent round table that bought together regulators, policymakers and finance leaders under the theme “Strengthening Cyber Resilience in Digital Financial Services in Africa: The Role of Financial Regulators.”

Cybersecurity is an expensive risk to manage. Systemically important banks across developing nations spend on average $400 million each on cybersecurity risk management annually. Despite this they still face successful cyber attacks. It is therefore important as digitial dependency rightly grows across developing nations, they take advantage of developments in cyber governance, regulation, education and risk mitigation. To reduce the effects of cyber attacks on critical infrastructure. Developing national strategies to educate those vulnerable to cyber and fraud protect their financial freedom.
