Cybersecurity of the Defense Industry Base (DIB) is important for national and economic security.
We are therefore pleased to publish an article alongside Georgios Alevras in Militaire.gr on the DFARS cybersecurity regulations issued by the United States Department of War (DoW). Specifically the recent publication of DFARS 252.204-7021, known as CMMC, and its impact on the Greek Defence Industry Base.
DFARS 7021 is effective from the 10th November 2025. It enables DoW contracting officers to implement CMMC requirements across the global DIB. CMMC requires covered DIB contractors and subcontractors to self-assess, attest, and affirm compliance with FAR clause 52.204-21 and certificate compliance to NIST SP 800-171 cybersecurity practices.
Over the next 3 years, the DoD will increase its oversight and assurance of the global DIB, such that by the end of 2028, it will solicit CMMC certification for DoW contract awards and options. Starting in November 2025, the DoW will require covered contractors to submit and affirm their assessments of compliance with FAR, then NIST security practices, and may require contractors to submit a certificate of compliance from 2025, before contract or option award.
One must not forget that covered contractors have had since 2017 to comply with NIST SP 800-171, under DFARS 252.204-7012.
We hope that you enjoy the article.
