Depending upon how you view the situation the regulatory environment is showing signs of improvement globally. For GDPR it was always going to be a question of who will be first over the line to set the target for everyone else to follow and it was BA and Marriott. Both companies have declared that they will challenge the decisions, so there is someway to go yet.
I’m sure there will be some flexibility on the fines, more than likely to be negotiated downwards. But the direction of regulatory travel for me appears clear. Whilst the current cases will set case law for GDPR and the UK, data protection legislation is here to stay.
