IT, like security must always be on the front foot, a business enabler and not a business driver. The role of the CIO, and importantly for me the CISO, is to enable business transformation and change, to reduce organisational risk. As the quote goes ‘the only thing which is constant is change (Heraclitus)’ and if your not managing it then you are likely to be asked to leave the bus (good to great – Jim Colins), when the new boss arrives. As one often forgets the new boss is aiming to make change to reflect their own ability to show they can deliver too.
