I’ve enclosed an article I recently had published on setting the standards for cyber security professionals, with Roy Isbel of the Worshipful Company of IT Professionals. There have been debates around security qualifications recently and my research shows there are over 120.

At a time when the role of the cyber professional is most critical; should we start to define the professional standards we expect security leaders to attain. To be able to take a seat at the board table, putting them on par with their counterparts like the CFO, GC, HRD and CMO. Who have professional bodies to accredit them and in some cases accreditation is a legal requirement to perform their duties.

The UK government thinks so. The department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport are developing the UK Cyber Security Council, setting the standards for cyber security professionals and a Chartered cyber security qualification. (https://lnkd.in/efqhQBJ)

A step towards setting the standards through which cyber security leadership qualifications maybe defined. Which will help the Chairmen and CEO place assurance that their security team has attained a level of professional standard in line with other members of the board.
