More years ago than I care to remember I built models for the evaluation of operational risk and the assessment of regulatory capital for Solvency II and Basel II. Working with brighter people than myself, we were tasked with defining the role of the Operational Risk professional to reduce operational risk.

This got me thinking, what is the role of the cyber risk professional. Is it the same as operational risk?

In simple terms, is the role of a cyber risk professional to identify and reduce the impact of expected loss events. Identify, prepare for and manage the impact of unexpected loss events. Prepare the organisation to manage the impact of extreme loss events.

I have no right or wrong answer.
