Call us now:
One would open by saying welcome to the new normal, but, its not the new normal, its now just normal. Business has faced cyber insecurity for many years, its just not darkened UK shores with such visible abundance or interest to hit mainstream media.
Prior to the Marks and Spencer and Co-op hacks the media (and government) paid little attention cybersecurity, or the threat it poses to national and economic security. Cyber insecurity has always been there, it’s the ‘dirty little secret’; the uninvited guest at the party; the elephant in the room and it now wants out and here lies the problem.
On one side of the coin we have nation state threat actors and proxy’s that have trojan horsed themselves into our CNI. Who in the absence of real defence honed their craft to know more about a victims IT systems than they do, to lay inside infrastructure undetected and to know more about a companies employees than the company itself. On the other side of the coin we have governments, organisations and societies, who by enlarge paid little attention to cybersecurity (cyber insecurity), instead focusing on digitial growth without security and now we have AI knocking on the door.
We are now heading towards a clash of a size or scale we do not yet know. But it’s hard to stand in front of a herd of elephants without a getting scratched. Companies cannot rely on governments to manage cyber defence, as we’ve seen by the M&S, Co-oP, UnitedHealth Group, CDK Global, Peter Green Chilled and Synnovis hacks…………it’s a problem for boards to address.
