The DoD issued a deviation to the current DFARS 252.204-7012 updating NIST compliance to NIST SP 800-171 R2. It is unclear how many defense contractors are required to comply with DFAR 252.204-7012 today. Or how the DoD plans to provide oversight of compliance or the national or international DIB?
What is clear is the DFARS is another cyber regulation to add to the growing list of cyber regulations effecting the private sector.
