The 8 K filling by American Water Works following its announcement the company identified a unauthorized activity on its networks on the 3rd October 2024. American Water Works is a public the largest and most graphically diverse publicly traded water utility in the U.S.
while little s yet know about the incident, public utilities are a prime target for hacking groups, least of all as CNI providers water utilities provide critical services to all society. As demonstrated by the hack on United Health earlier this year, a cyber attack on a key single point of failure has the potential to cause significant damage to infrastructure.
One expects local State Regulators to be paying close attention to the incident and the impact, if any, on state residents.
