Thanks you for posting Ted Dziekanowski. U.S regulators appear to be lining up with regulations or consent orders.
Along with the SEC requiring companies to claw back bonuses, the Federal Trade Commission proposed this week that the CEO of Drizly a company owned by Uber, be required to manage cybersecurity at future companies he is CEO.
The proposal follows Drizly’s 2020 data breach, and is under a 30 day public comment period before a commission vote. It would make him accountable for cyber even if he moves companies, providing the company collects public information from more than 25,000 people.
This development implies the FTC could apply the same approach to other CEOs and leaders for their management of cybersecurity. It ‘tags’ CEOs and could ultimately affect their career chances. Shareholder will question their ability to manage cyber if they move to other firms.
