The challenge with Cloud is what do you do when the data centre is no longer available? A data centre fire at the end of September rendered many South Korean Government Services out of action. The Government’s G-Drive (no relation to google) work cloud and online storage system used by central government officials may not have been backed up. As it was too big.
National resilience and ICT risk management are important. But generally, they are not seen or heard of until things go wrong. In this case, the failure to manage the risk may be far greater than the cost of off-site backup and storage.
