The impact of the recent Exchange hack is being felt here in the UK. But has been active for 2 months (https://lnkd.in/efDx2iv). It is a very sophisticated hack combining several ‘Zero Day’ exploits to access Exchange servers and enable remote code execution. The hacking group is thought to be a Chinese government backed proxy, so its likely the hackers will stay around to hover up IP before deciding what to do next.

This hack maybe bigger and far more damaging that the 2020 FED hack or ‘notpetya’. Simply by the number of firms which use exchange and the relative immaturity of companies to understand and manage the fix. To quote the Financial Times on the 09.03.2021 what began as a clandestine Chinese espionage campaign targeting specific individuals via flaws in Microsoft email software has escalated into a devastating global hacking free-for-all that is claiming tens of thousands of business and public-sector victims.

The amount of concern raised by this hack makes me wonder what the Chinese for ‘notpetya’ is?
