The JLR cyber attack is taking its toll on the company and its suppliers. It is reported that it could take until November to bring the firm back to full operations (Telegraph report).

The cost of the cyber attack is reportedly £5million a day. If the statements of a November restart are correct, then the cost of the hack could exceed £350 million in lost profit. This does not include the additional soft costs that the company will incur. It does not include the costs to the JLR supply chain and the potential impact on 30,000 UK and 100,000 international staff affected by the shutdown.

Cyber attacks are costly, complex, and difficult to manage. A reason some countries are regulating cybersecurity risk management. One wonders how the UK government will respond to the latest cyber attack, as its impact appears more significant than say the Marks and Spencer hack.
