The Process Automation industry is having a challenging week with cyber. With the announcement by ABB that they are under a cyber attack from Black Basta, and the WSJ article that Rockwell is being audited by the Department of Energy, Defense and Justice.
We often forget about the importance of process automation and the reliance on OT technologies for the production, delivery and maintenance of most of our CNI.
ABB is a critical supplier to many CNI providers and defense, and supply chain hacks are demonstrated to have industry wide implications. Companies such as ABB and Rockwell could be considered CNI providers in their own right, as their products and services are critical infrastructure for many industries. One wonders if the ABB attack propagated out through ABBs service, support, condition monitoring or TPM solutions? One hopes that the incident is contained.
