The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration‚Â (TSA) agency last week issued security directives that implement new cybersecurity requirements on the‚Â US passenger rail‚Â and‚Â high-risk freight rail‚Â sectors.
Owners and operators are required to:
1. Designate a cybersecurity coordinator
2. Report to CISA whether any information or operational technology system under their control had been compromised.
3. Develop a Cybersecurity Incident Response Plan.
4. Conduct a cybersecurity vulnerability assessment using the form provided by TSA and submit the form to TSA. The vulnerability assessment will include an assessment of current practices and activities to address cyber risks to Information and Operational Technology systems, identify gaps in current cybersecurity measures, and identify remediation measures and a remediation plan.
