The UK and US have a very close relationship based upon centuries of shared values, respect and international collaboration. Demonstrated at the hardest edge of conflicts over the past 100 years. What most people do not know is that the UK is one of the largest exporters to the US Department of Defence (DoD). The UK helps keep the US defence industry moving, exporting $10s Billions of products and services such as those required for the F35. Underpinned by MoUs and agreements signed by the DoD and UK Defence procurement. Acknowledging the Bilateral defence trading relationship between both countries, strengthening the reciprocal services and collaboration between our 2 countries, and the sharing of information in support of mission objectives and success.
The DoD cybersecurity programme CMMC is an example which in my opinion will have a significant impact on the bi-lateral defence procurement relationship. As the DoD presses ahead pending a review by the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Cyber is a domain of operation confirmed by NATO and both countries will be working hard to ensure that the DoDs IP is secure. In line with US and UK shared objectives of securing defence IP and the mission. This will be bought under the spotlight as cyber attacks become more of a geopolitical threat. The concerns raised by various US GAO reports are addressed, requiring the protection of DoD IP across the international DIB. In support of joint mission security and collaboration.
