The UK Government announced its blue print for AI in January 2025. But one suspects that delivering it will be the issue.https://lnkd.in/e5Pt6_CxThe UK has allot to offer across AI and cybersecurity. It has the intellectual capacity, breadth of knowledge and experience and we have a huge amount of AI start up capacity.’Today, the UK is an AI intellectual powerhouse. The DeepMind team built their ground breaking work in the UK and continue to do so as part of Google. Geoffrey Hinton, the 2024 Nobel Prize-winning physicist and widely regarded “Godfather of AI” is British. Two of the three 2024 Chemistry Nobel Prize winners, recognised for their AI-driven breakthroughs in protein folding, did their foundational work in London.’But being an intellectual powerhouse is one thing, delivering at scale and with pace requires investment, that requires risk taking. Risk taking that requires a cultural shift, and we ain’t good at risk taking. The US approach to supporting tech is different, risk is built into the equation. There’s an inherent expectation that 8 out of 10 investments in start ups will fail. But the 2 of those that succeed will pay back any losses and leave enough cash over to return a healthy amount to investors (on average of course). A simple herd mentality to risk, when added to the investment expertise makes for a winning combination. Most in the UK tech sector are aware of our risk aversion here. As someone working to raise capital for a Cyber AI Ed Tech, US investors are more receptive to a conversation than those in the UK, although it may help that we decided to start the company in the US.The UK maybe an intellectual powerhouse but we, as do the Europeans, find it difficult to fuel the powerhouse. Without the funding and ability to take risk we will never move forward.@Thaddeus Dziekanowski Brian D. McCarthy Faisal KhanVeritas GRC#cybersecurity #cyberriskmanagement #cyberregulation
