The US DoD CMMC program is starting to come home to roost for both the DoW and SMEs, putting both between a rock and a hard place. On one hand, the DoW’s mission to protect national security is put at risk by the DIBs failure to comply with DFARS 252.204-7012 for the past 10 years. On the other SMEs have had 10 years to comply with cybersecurity requirements and are expected to fund compliance under contracts they have already signed, placing them at risk under the False Claims Act.

This is further compounded by the real challenges that the national and international DIB face in certifying CMMC compliance. There are not enough qualified assessors to certify defence contractors across the EU.

We raised the concern back in 2021 – https://lnkd.in/d-wv6ezN, requiring the DoD and SMEs to find a common solution to this complex problem.
