The US President has signed an Executive Order on ‘PROMOTING ADVANCED ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE INNOVATION AND SECURITY’. Setting out the US position on the strategic direction for the development and adoption of AI by the US Federal Government and the prioritisation of cyber defense of national Security Systems.

The EO highlights the seriousness that the WhiteHouse see the adoption of AI and the impact of AI on National Security. The recent release of Mythos raised many concerns, and these concerns are making their way into the Executive Order. Through requirements to develop AI defensive technologies, strengthen workforce planning, and the prioritisation of cyber defence by the United States Department of War, the development of Secure AI Frontier Models, and the use of the US legal system against those who misuse AI.

This EO says a lot about the challenges and opportunities that IA provides and its potential impact on National Security, and the real concern that the US government has about AI adoption and security.
