The US State Department has reported it has been hacked at some point in the past few weeks. Coming at a time when they are working to evacuate US Nationals and Dependents from Afghanistan.

The hack also comes at the time when the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs released a Cybersecurity Assessment of Federal Government, which included the State Department. Rating the State Department as ‘D’ for cyber security (August 2021). The lowest possible model rating. (see separate post)

Its a further example of the cybersecurity issues being faced by US Federal Government, at a time of heightened security tensions dealing with Afghanistan.
