There are a couple of pointers from the Federal Government that indicate the United States Department of War CMMC program is not going away. This is one of them.
The DoW is updating its policies and updating Section 32 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 170, addressing an update to the cybersecurity standard NIST SP 800-171 that Defense Contractors are expected to comply with under CMMC.
The second pointer is the proposed updates to the Federal Acquisition Regulation, revising CUI frameworks and cybersecurity requirements similar to CMMC.

An update that focuses on the security of CUI for every Federal Agency and their suppliers, requiring compliance with NIST SP 800-171 for the protection of CUI.
CMMC is not going anywhere soon.
